March. Gratitude journal. Day 7.

music

Another big one. Music.

I have a very eclectic taste in music. Let me give you an example.

My older brother (he is 10 years older) had his own heavy metal rock band. In Russia. In 90s. At the time people never even heard of such kind of music. When I saw posters with German, Swedish, American rock bands, at first, I thought they were girls as all of them had long hair. But the screaming and yelling on the recordings sounded like those were the guys after all.

My brother’s idea of babysitting me was to take me to his rehearsals, or even better, underground concerts. Me, who was 7 or 8 at the time. You get the idea. I was bursting with pride since I was the only kid at those concerts. The army of his friends were watching over me no matter what state they were in themselves 🙂

I made pizzas for them and helped them with lyrics. They told me about their girlfriends and bought me sweets. I even recorded a song with them. I even performed it at a few rock festivals. At the age of 9 years old. Those were the days.

My memories are filled with songs and lyrics. Summer camps, high school, first love, first break up, university, summer cottage with friends.. too many to mention.. I am so thankful that for a short time I was a member of the a cappella choir and was able to make music like that. I remember being pregnant and singing Beethoven. Maya was restless during those rehearsals. I am still not sure whether she hated it or loved it 🙂

Music is magic. I don’t want to say cliches like how it makes me cry or lifts me up. It is self-understood. It is a part of me. Inseparable.
